Kingdom Come

A filmmaker and former filmmaking teacher of mine — Paiman Kalayeh — got in touch. He and a colleague, John Lyons Murphy, were putting the finishing touches on a documentary. There were a lot of talking heads and they wanted my help to mix things up with a combination of storyboards and lo-fi animation.

The documentary — Kingdom Come — followed the journey of actor Daniel Gillies’ struggle to write and direct his first film — Broken Kingdom — in the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis. His story is intercut with the war stories of independent film luminaries — like Ed Burns, Kevin Smith, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Don Cheadle, Selma Blair and Ron Perlman among others.

For all of them, independent film is a passion that comes at a high price.
