New digs and Seaside Living... - 29/08/09

So it's been a while... But there are works going behind the scenes to update this site, give it some more usability and make it easier to update. So that's my excuse.

We've also moved down from London to Brighton. Now that I am down here, it's hard to remember why people try so hard to live in big hard cities. This place feels amazingly small and comfortable. It reminds me of the intimacy of the mountain redoubt of my childhood -- everyone who is here is here because they've made a conscious decision to step away from the rat race (at least some of them) and it makes for a positively mellower experience. There is of course still the detritus of city living when the "Stag" and "Hen" parties from all over England descend to revel in a pub and club bacchanalias (bacchanalii?) they wouldn't dream of in their own towns. But that just makes for good live entertainment...

Anyway, Lyndsay and I took a lovely open-topped sight seeing bus five miles out of town into the South Downs to this lovely land mass (or void rather). The great thing about England seems to be that where ever there is an amazing place of interest, they've planted a pub of interest after it. So of course, we ended our walk through Devil's Dyke with a pint of Sussex Bitter at the pub at the top. I love that...
